Vowels Followed by the /r/ Sound
The quality of a vowel often changes when the r follows it. There is a slight /ə/ sound that is added after certain vowels, making it sound almost as if the word contains an extra syllable. For example, fire sounds like “fai /ə/+r.”
这一节讲的是：当一个元音后面跟着 r 时，这个元音经常会发生变化。
有时候中间会多出一点很轻的 /ə/ 感觉，好像这个词多了一个小音节。
比如 fire。
它不是简单地读成 “fai + r”。
中间会有一点轻轻的 /ə/，听起来接近：
